As you might gather from the name, this is my on-line soapbox. The prime purpose is to offer me the chance to stimulate your business brain. There is a regularish blog where I review and comment on business books, other business content I come across and generally air my views on business and life. This always has a marketing and eMarketing slant because I do.
There are free downloads of material I have written and titles eArticles, eBooks and videos authored by much smarter people published under Shoulders of Giants brand (as Sir Isaac said, if you want to see further, stand on the shoulders of giants).
For reasons I cannot fully understand myself, let alone explain, I also allow Stame Reilly to blog and publish his eBooks on this site. Stame is an old friend but his views are his not mine. I say this because they are rude, crude and often outrageous. Puerile might be a better word. I rarely agree with anything he says but it is sometimes amusing and that is ok because business is improved by a little humour and satire. It stops us all taking ourselves too seriously and I admit there is sometimes a grain of truth in what he says.
Back to me my site, remember here is a brief background.
Graduated, Bristol University, BSc in Economics and Sociology
Unilever 1977-1988 brand manager then one of several marketing directors
Added Value Marketing Agency 1988-2002 co-founder, CEO and sold out
Wrote a book Added Value: The alchemy of brand-led growth
SABMiller Plc 2002-2006 Group Marketing Director (their first)
After 2006 I moved to Cape Town, took a little time out, and came to realize that as a career marketer with a strong interest in business I had to get to grips with digital. So I launched my first internet business, Shoulder of Giants, a kind of guru on-line offering, but quickly learned my first lesson. Its very hard to sell content on the internet! However, I have become very passionate about eMarketing and am proud to say that I am now the Non-Executive Chairman of Quirk eMarketing Agency.
I have a few other advisory roles in South Africa and Europe and, if people are desperate enough, occasionally offer myself as a speaker.
In summary, I am an old school/new school marketer with a belief in entrepreneurialism, good business and ideas as the drivers of growth.
